We would have won GPL if we played at Baba Yara – Kotoko CEO

Chief Executive officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah believes the Porcupine Warriors would have been crowned winners of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League if they had played their home games at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Kumasi-Based club were forced to find an alternative home after the Baba Yara Stadium was closed for renovation works.
Kotoko played all their home games of the first round at the Accra Sports Stadium, before switching to the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium in the second round.

According to the Kotoko CEO, the change of venues affected the performance of the team.

“If we had played at the Baba Yara Stadium, we would’ve won this league with 10 points gap because at some point, we were leading Hearts of Oak with 4 points but we thank God we didn’t disgrace ourselves, considering all the disadvantages,” Nana Yaw Amponsah told Happy Sports.

“Some of the refereeing decisions that went against Kotoko this season, I believe if it was at the Baba Yara Stadium, the fear of God will be in some people.

“We all know that home advantage plays a key role in our football,” he added.

Kotoko will now switch focus to the MTN FA CUP and they have been drawn against Berekum Chelsea in the quarter-final of the competition, where they are the defending champions.

Kotoko fans and their C. E O are all confused . If you are a good player, you don’t need a particular stadium to perform well.

Ronaldo and Messi person well irrespective of which stadium they play in. The kotoko C E is just trying to shift the blame to say because Hearts of oak played most of their games in Accra stadium is the reason they won the Ghana premier league. This is palpable fallacy because Hearts played most of their games away from Accra. The team was poised and prepared for the tournament.

Congrats to heats of oak , better luck and preparation for kotoko next seaso.

Kotoko did well in the competition and I believe they can win the cup when next season they come back.

BUT Nana yaw Amponsah can’t allude the failure of the team to not playing in Kumasi. A good team must be ready to play with anyone anywhere. So that accession is neither here nor there
