Unlike Akufo-Addo, Mahama cannot say he is incorruptible – NPP

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has taken a swipe at former President John Mahama for accusing the government of being corrupt or presiding over corruption.

The party said John Mahama, unlike President Akufo-Addo, cannot make any bold claim of being incorruptible because of his past records.

The General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu at a press conference on Thursday said Mr. Mahama’s claims of corruption against the government are unfounded.

Speaking on a Tamale-based radio station during his ‘thank-you tour’ of the Northern Region last week, John Mahama said under his leadership, he fought corruption better than the Akufo-Addo government, citing the prosecution of some of his officials.

He has also urged Ghanaians to vote against the NPP in 2024 to pave way for a new government that can assess their stewardship to ensure that they do not make away with monies they may have stolen,

But John Boadu said, “Former President Mahama asserts without proof that the NPP has stolen Ghana’s money and that, he can ensure accountability through elections… Is that the same Mahama whose government signed onto a half-baked contract of $1.2 billion for the Ghana Retail Payments Systems Infrastructure? Sibton Switch Systems Ltd has just lost an arbitration demand for $478 million from Ghana for revoking that agreement. The Akufo-Addo administration did a far more enhanced project for only $4.5 million.”

The NPP scribe said the Akufo-Addo government’s anti-corruption stance has made it possible for it to raise enough money to fund its different social intervention programs, including Free SHS and Planting for Food and Jobs.

“The NPP government saved the country billions of dollars which have helped the government channel resources into projects like FREE SHS, planting for food and job, 1D1F, etc.”

Mr. Boadu alleged that John Mahama himself has been involved in different corruption scandals, hence is unable to make any bold statements about the fight against corruption.

“We all know that, unlike President Akufo-Addo, candidate John Mahama cannot and has not been able to make any bold statement to tout his incorruptibility because of his personal involvement in a lot of the corruption scandals that plagued his administration,” he stated.

He further advised the former President to take on the government and report it to the appropriate institutions if he has concrete evidence of corruption within the government.

“In any event, as a former President, Mahama does not have to wait to deal with corruption. He knows the institutions within the government responsible for investigation and prosecution. He can report his so-called evidence of corruption allegations about the NPP to any of the enforcement agencies that Ghana can boast off, including the Special Prosecutor that he, Mahama, has advised to be independent,” John Boadu stated.

See who’s talking. A walking illegality as this General secretary of the NPP. So politicians cannot be shameful in their lives huh. Mahama made Ghana go through a lot of challenges but Nana Addo, he actually came to destroy the Republic. I’ve never seen a government as corrupt and useless as this current government

The very moment people like John Boadu was recognized as a politician was when the future of Ghana became highly uncertain. No disrespect to NPP activists on the platform but this man speaks and acts without the welfare of the people on his mind. If an appointee of Nana Addo who was given the mandate to fight corruption in the capacity as a special prosecutor can describe the president as a “mother serpent of corruption”, then who is John Boadu?
