Tokyo 2020: Ghana’s Nadia Eke out after 3 ‘no jump’ attempts in triple jump

Ghana’s Nadia Eke is out of the Tokyo Olympics after recording ‘no jump’ in all three attempts of the women’s triple jump event Friday morning.

Eke, 28, making her debut at the games, was hoping to make an impression but all three jumps were adjudged illegal for board infringements.

The Ghanaian record holder, had already indicated her intention to quit the sport after the games, but exiting without a single legal jump at her first games would come as a disappointment for the Columbia University graduate.

Nadia becomes the 5th Ghanaian athlete to exit the games at the preliminary stage following earlier exits for boxer Shakul Samed, and swimmers Abeiku Jackson and Unilez Takyi, and judoka Kwadjo Anani.

She can’t quit like this, it’s disappointing, we believe this will serve as a wake up call for one last olympics. Even tho it didn’t go as expected we thank her for her contribution in the name of the country

Our athletes keeps dropping out gradually. But to me, they did really great to have gotten to this stage. The remaining athletes must rise to the occasion and make Ghana proud.
