Student delivers in exams hall, returns to complete paper

A final-year student of the Gushegu Senior High School (SHS) in the Northern Region was delivered of a baby boy Monday morning, September 13, 2021 while writing the English Language paper in the ongoing West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The student (name withheld) was said to have been taken to the Gushegu Municipal Hospital but returned to the school soon after to continue with the examination.

A tutor of the school who confirmed the incident to Graphic Online said the student went into labour around 10 am when she was writing the English Language paper and was assisted by one of the female students to deliver after which the mother and baby were sent to the Gushegu hospital for medical attention.

The tutor said this was the first time the school has recorded such an incident during the WASSCE.

He said the new mother returned to continue with the exams that ended around 11.30 am and has since returned to the hospital.
Checks by Graphic Online at the Gushegu Municipal Hospital indicated that the mother and the child were in stable condition and were due to be discharged soon.

This is what happens when your books are calling but your Ayase is also calling. She did well cos it’s not easy putting to bed with all those pains and running back to the clasito write an exams.
GES or the sector ministry can’t design something for such cases? Like dispatching her exams paper to her at the hospital for her to write from there.
They should rethink some of these things

Eishh this news is powerful. Buh I learnt during delivery it’s a very tough process and after that the mother will be very tired. Or now dierr it’s different. Pls I want to be educated more on these

GES do that, they send an invigilator and the paper to the hospital but there is a process to go through. And she gave birth the same day the paper was being written so she had no choice than to come back since it was a core paper

So why didn’t do so for this girl from the north? I’m asking because the thread didn’t mention that.
Good to know GES does that . They must be proactive in some of these matters

It will take more than a day for the message to be sent and accepted by GES
