Baba Yaara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.
The Baba Yaara Sports Stadium has been under renovation since the start of last week. Due to it’s poor state, the Black Stars of Ghana switched their home matches to Accra Sports Stadium and the Cape Cost stadium. The 45,000 capacity stadium is now completed and fully prepared to host fans and games.
It was very disappointing to see a stadium of football nation like Ghana to have its Stadium in a such a bad state.
Ghana Premier League sides Asante Kotoko and King Faisal had no other option than changed their home venues last season due to the renovation that was taking place. This has one way affected the two sides in terms of revenue from gate fee and fans support during matches.
The Sports Ministry has been commended and applauded after pictures of the renovated pitch and sits hit the social media.
The score board has also been kept into a good shape now. Pictures and a visit to the stadium has made the public to compare the excellent nature of the stadium to top European stadiums like Britana stadium (home of stoke city) and Stamford Bridge (home of Chelsea).
Toilets and bathrooms in the stadium have all been renovated and put into a good shape for public usage. The conference rooms and other offices are now in good shape.
The Sports Ministry paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Ashanti Kingdom, Otumfor Osei Tutu (Asantehene) and they were applauded for the massive development at the stadium. Asantehene hip praises on the Sports Ministry for his effort in bringing the stadium to good shape.
The Stadium is now fully ready and more than prepared to host matches ahead of the new season and upcoming World Cup Qualifiers for the national teams. The government of Ghana and the Sports Ministry are encouraged to renovate the rest of the Stadiums and keep it in good shape.
The Accra Sports Stadium was fully renovated last year but still needs some works. Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale is another stadium that need proper innovations especially the pitch and the bathrooms. Most of the sits are still in good condition but renovating that one too would not be a bad idea.
